Fab 4 give fans a blast from the past
You would be forgiven for thinking the year was 2007.
Well, no, you wouldn’t, but there sure is an air of yesteryear in the draw for the Australian Open semi-finals.
Two weeks ago, punters would have been laughed at for suggesting that Rodger Federer, Rafael Nadal and both Williams sisters would feature in the second last round of the tournament for 2017.
But that’s exactly what’s about to happen.
Over the next two days, Federer and Nadal will play in separate semi-finals.
If both are successful, fans will get their dream men’s final on January 29.
Sister’s Venus and Serena are in a very similar position; they sit on opposite sides of the draw and, if both can progress through the semi-final stage, will face each other for a Grand Slam title for the first time since Wimbledon 2008.
It’s a scenario with a lot of “ifs” and chances are it won’t happen, but tennis fans have been known to dream in the past and it’s unlikely they’ll quit now.
