Veteran to make long-awaited debut
At age 36, Michael Klinger has been selected in Australia’s T20 squad to take on Sri Lanka in a three match series later this month.
The veteran batsman’s selection follows yet another successful campaign in the BBL for the Perth Scorchers in which he finished the season as the third highest run scorer.
National selector Trevor Hohns justified the selection, saying “(Klinger) has been a very good player in this form of the game for some time now.
“He has a history of strong performances in T20 competitions in the UK and in the BBL, including the match-winning innings for the Perth Scorchers to secure this year’s BBL title.”
After amassing over 10 000 first class runs for Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, many cricket fans believe that a call up should have come much sooner and in a more traditional format than T20.
In spite of this, the man himself was nothing but grateful when told the news.
“I called my wife first.
“JL gave me a big hug and it was hard to keep the tears away until I spoke to her.”
