Aus cricketers want performance pay reviewed
Australian cricketers have called for the performance-related payments within their contracts to be reviewed.
Under the current system, players receive a match wage as well as a further payment if the team wins.
The cry follows a 2-0 loss to New Zealand in the recent ODI series, in which star batsman David Warner and pace spearheads Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were rested due to their busy schedules.
“The performance pool was agreed in the last MOU negotiation but now we have a system that needs to be reviewed,” Australian Cricketers’ Association chief executive Alistair Nicholson said.
“There is a situation when this model is combined with the overlapping of the schedule and having players rested, it will need revisiting in the MOU negotiations.
“The ACA will be exploring both the schedule and the performance pool as part of the current discussions.”
