Bernadi leaves Liberal Party
South Australian senator Cory Bernadi has announced his official exit from the coalition in a move that will allow him to establish his Australian Conservative party.
Bernadi announced his leave in a scathing address that accused the government of “failing the people of Australia”.
“The level of public disenchantment with the major parties, the lack of confidence in our political process, and the concern about the direction of our nation is very, very strong,” he said.
Bernadi’s new party will likely aim to limit the size of government.
“It really is time for a better way — for a conservative way,” he said.
