We ate pho at Gia Hoi in Sydney’s Haymarket.

Here is what the team thought.

The food itself was close to flawless. A clean broth and a solid quantity of meat. However, a substantial component of my criteria is atmosphere and, unfortunately, this is where Gia Hoi lacks punch.

When I think pho, I think quick, easy and no fuss. Gia Hoi ticks those boxes; it’s a perfect lunchtime pop in. The whole dish was healthy, fresh and tasty. The downside for me was the customer service, I just didn’t feel at home.

A pretty authentic Vietnamese experience (not that I’d know), it certainly felt as if the owners were attempting to recreate the humidity of Southeast Asia. If I was to condense our time at Gia Hoi into one word, that word would be sweaty. Now to the food. A full flavoured broth and a decent amount of meat and noodles. No major complaints in that department.
