Future Blues stake their claim

Roberts v Latrell

It was arguably the game of the year last night at Suncorp Stadium as the Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos battled it out in front of over 29,000 fans.

A thrilling finish, miraculous tries and relentless defence all contributed to a match few could keep their eyes from.

But it was the centre battle between Latrell Mitchell and James Roberts that took the cake, with the young superstars both playing crucial roles at either end of proceedings.

If Brad Fittler had queries as to who should wear the NSW three and four come June 6 at the MCG, he won’t now.

Roberts and Mitchell were at each other’s throats all night, attempting to one up their opponent and it made for brilliant footy (not to mention superb TV).

Mitchell seemed to dominate the first half, having a hand in both his side’s first two tries, including swatting Roberts away for one of them.

Jimmy the Jet staked his claim as the fastest player in the competition as his dazzling feet beat Latrell twice to set up one try and score another.

If NSW and Brad Filter are serious about fostering a winning culture and setting up years of success, these two young men are the perfect starting point.

Their speed, power and strength are uncanny and simply not matched by other centres in the competition currently.

They can make teams look foolish with the ball in their hands and although there may be question marks over their defence and lapses in concentration, I believe they have enough skill and pure talent to clinch NSW a series win in 2018.
